NC State Championship (Concord, NC)

March 02, 2019

We looked at our qualifier schedule and frowned.  In every match, we had to face the best high school teams: Robinson HS (2 times), McMichael HS (4 times), Critical Error (2 times) and Hurricane Robotics (once). It's going to be a tough one.  And it was...

REC Foundation Online Challenges

February 24, 2019

This season we participated 3 different Online Challenges by REC Foundation:

  • VRC Girl Powered Online Challenge sponsored by Google

  • Robotics Team Website Challenge sponsored by Dell

  • VRC Promote Award Online Challenge

More than 1,100 entries were submitted by robotics teams worldwide.  And to our excitement, 2 out of 3 our entries were selected as finalists!  Our essay "A Different Kind of Power" was among 25 finalists for the VRC Girl Powered Online Challenge, and our video "The Quest for V5" was among 17 finalists for the VRC Promote Award Online Challenge.

Signature Event - Google VEX (Sunnyvale, CA)

February 17, 2019

This was the most exciting competition for us -- our first Signature Event at Tech Corners Google Campus.  There were 70 teams representing 14 states, and we were the only team from North Carolina!  There were lots of challenging moments during the competition, but we were quick to come up with a solution and win the match!

NC Western Qualifier (Concord, NC)

January 05, 2019

What could go wrong? V5 glitch: Brain disconnected and Motor 2 failed in the middle of Skills Driver Controlled.  The middle flags were too stiff to toggle.  And the ball jammed the front wheel twice during Programming Skills, so our robot cannot climb the Bonus Platform.  But we did not gave up, and won 6 out of 7 qualifying matches.  And we won "Build" Award for our top quality and consistently performing robot "Meowzers!"

NC Central Qualifier (Apex, NC)

November 10, 2018

Amazingly, nothing went wrong this time! It was the first test of the new V5 technology on the field and it performed up to our expectations. Our competition autonomous code never messed up, and the Smart Motors were powerful and let us do many things that old 393 motors couldn't do as easily, like climb the platform or push off opponents.  We won "Think" Award for the best autonomous programming!

NC State Championship (Concord, NC)

March 10, 2018

"What could go wrong... With driving two hours on Saturday to get to Concord? With two younger brothers? To a high school to watch robots? To somewhere where they'd rather be anywhere else? By waking up at 6:00 in the morning? And making sure we get there before 9:00? And letting the two brother watch robots...FOR OVER 8 HOURS? Without tablets?

WHAT COULD GO WRONG?!?!? Everything!"

P.S.  We won Judges Award! Yay!

NC "Last Chance" Qualifier (Eden, NC)

February 17, 2018

What could go wrong?  Well, the Greensboro Tournament for Science Olympiads is also scheduled for the same day.  So we have a tough decision to make: who will compete in VEX tournament and who will travel with their Middle School team to Science Olympiads.  Luckily for us, we got 4 out of 5 VEX team members on board for the "Last Chance" Qualifier.  It's going to be a great day! And it was indeed.  We won Excellence Award and qualified for NC State and CREATE US Open Championships!

NC Central Qualifier (Cary, NC)

January 13, 2018

The last minute changes are done.  The robot is packed and ready to go. We are all excited! What could go wrong?

And then the phone call... The competition is postponed for another month because of the snowstorm.  Oh, no...

But after a month of waiting, we finally had our first chance to compete, and we won Judges Award!
